I have a Fluke 36 clamp meter. It has a max function but no in-rush. Is the max measurement an accurate representation of the current at start-up? Also, which leg do I measure, the one hot through the start capacitor or the other hot constant to the motor? Thanks.

Oh yeah, 1hp 220VAC.

I would think the red wire, which carries current for both windings. I would expect something like 40 amps if you could catch it, since the AIM manual shows 41.8 amps for locked rotor amps.
