Matching pex tools, rings, and fittings?

I'm installing a water softener in the garage. The house is plumbed with PEX pipe and crimped fittings. Here is my question:

I bought pex fittings and rings from pexsupply and figured I would just rent the crimper and buy the pipe locally. Is this a bad idea? Do I need to use the same brand tool, rings, and fittings? I don't want any leaks down the road, but at least this will only be in my garage. Any advice is much appreciated.

So as long as I have fittigns designed for crimp rings, it doesn't matter which crimper, rings, or fittings I combine?

The only difference, if there is one, would be the go/no-go crimp diameter might be different. It's safer to keep the fittings/crimp from the same place. Probably doesn't matter that much with the pipe. This is all speculation on my part...
