Hi Guys,

Where I am I don't have access to HVAC specialist :) like you do in US.

I'm thinking about upgrading the blower motor - on my Goodman furnace( imported from US )

It's a 4 speed 1/3 HP motor.

I'm thinking about putting Azure ECM motor, apparently it auto setups CFM.

But I would like to verify that it's correct what tools do I need beside manometer ? To measure static pressure.

Thx

ECM motors take a special board to regulate it's speed. You cannot just replace the motor from a standard multi speed motor sometimes called X13 motors. ECM motors are quite good when it is designed into the air handler but it take a new computer board to run it. A 0-12 volt dc output to the motor determines the speed but the controller card alone with other factors determines the speed. Also, the thermostat needs to be proprietary where you can read air static pressure and fan RPM's.

If you found this and it is why you want to change it, your not buying any more efficiently. It will just complicate the install and any future motor replacement by someone not familiar with it.

I maintained a church that had eight Carrier AC units with ECM motors in the air handler and the condenser cooling fan. there was a very high failure rate and it was very expensive. In seven years three blower motors went bad and two condenser fans. On a third outside unit the control card for the ECM motor went bad. Another very expensive part. all of these motors were GENTEC's (formerly GE motors).
