Getting ready to replace main sewer line under house with 4' PVC. Supports for the CI failed and the pipe dropped causing it to crack. Main line above ground is 4" CI. When going underground turns to 4" Clay. Checked slope on first 30' and it is 1/2" every foot. When it connects to CI the slope is even greater to 1" per foot for another 10'. Main 4" CI stack goes through 2nd floor and attic. It connects to the main 4" DWV with a horizontal run at normal 1/4" slope. Have had no stoppages over the years. House was built in 1896.
I'll be doing the work myself, age 82. Probably best if main line slope kept at 1/2" per foot. and horizontal at 1/4" per foot. Total main run is 60' out rear of house to carriage house where it reduces to 3" DWV.
