I have a Bosch Aquastar 125 that has worked flawlessly for 17 years. Just recently, I get a lot of sediment out of the unit. It's only on the hot water side and I have to clean the spout filtration every other day. The shower head was completely clogged. Is the inside of the tank breaking down? Is there something I can do?

I have run vinegar through it for the first time. I let it run for about 3 hours. I think I'll do it again and let it go all day. I was also thinking of just adding a whole house filter after the water heater. Then at least I won't have clogged faucets.

The sediment could be a result of a bunch of scale freed from the heat exchanger from descaling. Descale every year to avoid giant mineral buildups.

You could benefit from a water softener. That would stop adding new calcium and magnesium to your plumbing.

The deposits in the aerator each day is strange. Will those particles dissolve in pure vinegar in a few days? I wonder what a whole-house cartridge filter would catch on the incoming water.

Hey, wait a minute.
