Hello

I have direct vent Apollo 50 gal water heater with recir fittings. It appears they model is not longer in production. Wondering if I can install the Lowes AO Smith unit. It has an option
equipped with inlet/outlet tappings for use with space heating applications.

You don't need a special water heater for recirc. You just remove the drain and replace it with a pipe and a tee and then the drain. The recirc will go into the side inlet of the tee.

I can't tell which water heater you currently have. It may be set up with the side ports being used Soley for space heating and that water would not be suitable for being mixed with domestic water. You need to determine what water heater you have exactly and find a water heater that matches its function either by direct model replacement or by something else that does the same thing.

Most manufactures will have a direct replacement model to what you have.
