A recent post about "spigot" fittings got me to thinking about a lot of plumbing terms which seem to be local to a certain geographical area:

Desanco fitting
Marvel connector
Smitty plate
LA pattern trap
Dresser coupling
"tap" vs. "faucet"

anybody add to the list?

It is only a drip leg when the valve malfunctions. Normally it is the T&P discharge pipe. Drip leg is the capped extension below the tee where the appliance connects.

Around here you can always tell the locals because they say "street elbow".The guys from out of town say "service elbow".

Is the capped portion of a gas T called a dirt leg OR drip leg? I have heared it called both. I have always called it a dirt leg.

Yes, a dummy stick, and I still use one from time to time. :)

How about a mattock being called a grub hoe?
