Limescale removal from drain

My daughter is staying in rural Italy and discovered that the lazy vanity drain has what looks to be heavy limescale buildup on the hair clog just above the trap. Lots of calcium in the water there. She’s handy enough but I advised her against taking the trap apart since the connections are heavily corroded and she’ll be up against replacement which may prove tricky for her. She bought a snake at a local shop which is just the cable itself- no auger housing and handle or ability to rotate it so it’s nearly useless to her. Is there a safe method of breaking down the buildup? They have a 15% muriatic acid solution under the sink but I don’t want her using that for her own safety and further compromising the already corroded drain. Thanks

Tell her to try vinegar, it is safer than acids.

There are commercial lime cleaners that may cause burns or eat away at the base metal.

I do not know if chemical cleaners that are available at local big box stores or local plumbing supplies are available in other countries
