We used to have someone we could call to check our water softener but it was our local pool store and we’ve had a slight disagreement on how paying customers should be treated so I’ve got to either handle things myself or find someone else. So in the meantime I have an issue with our water softener. We lost power due to storms the other day and it was only out a few minutes but I noticed water in the garage coming from the bottom of the softener the next day. I checked my salt and it was a little low but not too bad so I went ahead and put in some more salt. This has happened before so I’m not sure if it’s a common thing with power outages or low salt because they never exactly told me what caused the leak. So my question can low salt or power outages cause the leaking and if so what can I do to stop the leak? Thanks for any help!

Neither condition you mention should result in leakage.

Post some photos of your unit so that we can see the brand and type of softener you have. There could be models that have weaknesses which some of the forum contributors may be able to offer advice on.

Ok, thank you. I didn’t think about posting a picture.

Are you able to remove the plastic cover(s) from the softener and filter and then post photos? Include the backside and even the top of each valve.

While the valve on the Blue tank is a Fleck, I'm uncertain of the specific model without seeing with the cover removed or viewing the backside. Do you know the purpose for this filter or the media it contains?

The valve on the twin tank softener is not recognizable with the cover on. The Braswell website offers little assistance as no equipment photos are shown.

With covers removed, you may be able to find the source of the leak which you could also take photos of.

I have no clue what any of it does. When we bought our house a few years ago, I asked the service guy about it and all he would ever say is “nothing I need to worry about” he would never say anything else about it. I’ve tried finding manuals online but that’s really been a bust too.

These are the blue tank. And the leak is coming from the bottom of one of the twin tanks. It has done this before and it’s was the same tank. We kept changing out towels to soak up water because the service guy couldn’t make it out for a couple days but by the time he came it had stopped leaking and he said it was fine. So we’re back to the same thing all over again. I’m not sure if I can take the plastic cover off the tanks but I will keep looking.

Was water coming out of the drain line?
How long did it continue to come out?

The water is coming from the bottom of one of the twin tanks and I didn’t notice it coming from anywhere else...I apologize if this is a dumb answer. And as far as how long, it’s been leaking since yesterday.

Tie something like a strip of muslin around the center of the suspect tank. See if that gets wet. If that gets wet, the water is coming from above. Maybe tie a strip around the other tank while you are at it, in case the water is following that path to the floor.

If the long black cover can be removed from over the twin tank softener, you may then better see the source of the leak.

The leak may be where the control valve threads onto the tank, but as each softener tank is equipped with an outer jacket, water could be running to the floor under the jacket. Removing the upper cover may show enough of the connection location to establish if that is the source of the leak.

The service guy's attitude is unacceptable. You as the home and equipment's owner, need to understand the equipment and why it is there. Even as a leak was no longer apparent when he arrived, there was likely wetness remaining and so he could have investigated to identify the leakage source.

Is your water source your own well?

Braswell, I have the manuals. Shoot me a PM and I will reply with the manuals. I have not dealt with these units in over 5 -10 years.
