I have a 6 bedroom (3 full and 2 half bath) house that I'm just about done completely renovating.

Sewage flows into an old concrete septic tank. I estimate about 2000 gallons.

Then out through clay pipe into a field (I don't know any more of the specs).

I'm wondering if I should attempt to install a distribution box and replace the leach field pipes with either perforated pipe in rock or with chambers.

Can anyone provide any suggestions/tips/etc.?

I can dig up the area and lay pipe with rock or chambers well enough (I suppose).

Thanks!

I don't know if things are much different in NY, but in CT, we have health districts which carefully monitor all aspects of things like septic systems. If I wanted to redesign my septic or even extend my deck closer to my tank, it would be under the auspices of the Chesprocott Health District. http://www.chesprocott.org/about-chesprocott/faqs/

Their directives must be followed exactly.

Can you contact your municipality and see what they say about it?

My fear is that you would rebuild your septic/leach field better than anyone could, but without official approval or permit inspection, it may backfire when you go to sell the property. Best of luck and let us know how you make out.

Thank you.

Here's a break I discovered at the exit of the septic tank.

How can I fix this? I don't mind cutting it out and replacing with PVC, but I don't know what fittings to use.
