I am trying to replace a one handle Kohler shower valve originally installed in 1993. The valve however has a brass base (replacement is plastic) which attaches to the brass valve seat in the wall. The two issues are the decorative chrome collar that is shown to slide off the valve (on all tutorials) does not.
I figure it can stay on if I get the valve off (with the chrome piece stuck on) I can invest in an entire new cover..

The bigger issue when I do remove the two screws holding the entire valve on it doesn't move. I have tapped it with a hammer and tried WD40 all around the seal...

Any help would be appreciated.
