Hello,
I recently (been about 2 to 3 weeks ago) starting to hear random gurgling noise from my kitchen sink. Usually the gurgling noise occur when the water is running for while (more than 30 seconds) or when dishwasher is draining. I've read various blogs and it seems like it boils down to two possible causes. Partial drain blockage or vent pipe blockage. Is there way for me to figure whether it is partial drain blockage or vent pipe? The kitchen sink is located on island countertop on second floor of 3 store townhome. FYI I don't hear any gurgling noises from 3 floor bathroom or bathroom located on same floor as kitchen sink.

Thanks in advance

Terry

You might pull the trap and see how that looks. I have seen dishwashers draining well and make a lot of noise. I had one where the customer was happier when things were draining slowly and quieter.
If there is an issue, I"m thinking making sure the drain is clear is more likely than a vent issue.

Thank you Terry. So I'm going to try to clear the pipe to see if that makes any difference. So I have another question. Is it wise to use caustic drain cleaner? I've seen various site saying different things about it. Howeverk most of the plumbing site says it will damage my PVC pipe (house was built in 2012) so just use vinegar and baking soda or Green Gobbler. I've tried both and it makes absolutely no difference.
