I had some work done and I would like an honest estimate of the job. I feel I was seriously gouged in price. We had a leaky disposal on one side of the double sink and decided to just eliminate it. Since the existing trap was not directly under the drain, we needed some work done. We needed a new drain with tail piece and either an offset, or a 45 so that the trap would be directly under the tail piece. It seemed a simple job but I didn't want to do it myself. See the before picture with the disposal still in.
The plumber we hired came while I was at work so my wife was the only one home. He replaced BOTH drains, pipes and traps (keep in mind there was absoluotely nothing wrong with the right side sink drain.) and replaced them with smaller pipes. It went from 2" to 1 1/2". Not sure why he did that unless 2" is not to Iowa to code?
Anyway, the charge was $855. It would have been $1000 but he talked my wife into buying some kind of membership which gave us a 15% discount. While he did a very professional and clean job, is this really what a job like this should cost? Had I done this myself I would have made it just like the right side sink. I would have bought a new drain and tail, added a 45 bend after the trap with a small piece of PVC to make it all line up. Since I'm not a professional plumber, I'm guessing it would have taken an hour, maybe more if I ran into issues. I know the hourly rate is expensive and there is a markup on parts, but can someone tell me if this is an $855 job?
Thanks
