Kenmore water softner

I recently purchased a new home it has a kenmore water softner approx. 1998 it works great water is soft glasses are clear, but the water streams out of the drain on the head any ideas it a slow but steady stream

The short answer is that the guts of the valve body will need a rebuild.
Rotor and seals upper and lower will need to be replaced as they are warn.

I have a chance to buy a water softener from wolverine that's a couple years old for 200 would that be a better option than messing with the kenmore?

More information on the system from wolverine would be needed, but at first blush I would say most likely.
