Here is a gold tub faucet from 1981 that is not diverting well.
I wonder if the diverter on this can be repaired. These are photos sent to me.

Id fix stuff like that on my house or special case . But between reasearch , ordering , then getting part hopeing its right . probebly need to remove spout, Labor how does it work out? You probebly have some long term customers and provide Service. Taking care of customer maybe not a killing on every job. New spout? All new trim?

That gold plate finish is no longer available. To repair the existing spout the homeowner will remember you left their bathroom looking as good as it was. A mismatched finish and they will remember you every time they shower. Time is worth it if the quality of the fitting deserves it.

To each thier own the customer is always right .

While probably expensive, you could have a shop plate the old spout after cleaning it up or a new one with gold.

OP Terry wants to repair it. Looking at the rest of the trim , why replate the spout? wouldnt replacing all the trim on tub make more sence. Perhaps polished brass is available but no one said what owner wants.
My opinion is the whole thing looks horrible Id just throw a cheap chrome spout on until Demo started next week. Just kidding but all owners have opinions and needs wants. 39 years old some / many /most are concidering or have already done some repairs or replacements.
