I’m installing some can-less LEDS (re-model) I know your supposed to secure the box’s but it’s extremely tight and impossible with just the hole for the light, should I cut another hole and secure it or are there any exceptions for remodels etc . Thanks

It's a slightly gray area. The NEC requires the junction box to be secured, the manufacturer's instructions may say you can leave it loose, that's maybe OK if the junction box is considered part of the fixture, certainly not OK otherwise.

Best case is that you can reach through the hole to put a proud screw into a joist, and that the junction box comes with keyhole slots for mounting, and the cable to the light will still reach.

I expect in practice a lot of the junction boxes get left loose.

Cheers, Wayne
