I am soon to replace my 22 year old, 50 gallon, "Kenmore Power Miser 12" natural gas fueled water heater. (No leaks or other problems with it, but it must be removed to re-pour the badly cracked garage floor slab. Moving it will likely start a leak.)
As I try to educate myself about the best* choice of a replacement I see a lot of discussion about condensing vs non-condensing water heaters. But it always seems to be about tankless heaters. Do 50 gallon tank heaters also come in condensing or non-condensing types? If yes, then how to tell what it is? Promo literature for the heaters never mention the subject.
( * Tankless won't work because the gas line from the meter is too long and skinny to support the more than 150,000BTU/hr. Too costly to change the gas piping.)
