The plumbers installed the shower and all its plumbing quite a while ago. (Yeahhh.. 3 years ago...)
I asked them not to install the shower arm at the end, so that it would not be in the way when the drywall on the ceiling had to be done. So they installed a short placeholder piece in its place, and that was that.
All good!

So I finally caught up on the renovation work, and went to install the shower arm today.

I knew there was caulk around the threads of the piece installed in the shower arms place, so I was ready to have a rough time cleaning the threads with a nylon bristled brush after all this time.
I was worried that if any caulk were left over in the threads, it would cause a leak after I installed the shower arm+head, so I took a bunch of zoomed in photos with my cellphone camera and a flash light after cleaning to see if all the caulk was gone, and then...

I saw what looks like a line going across the threads in one spot (first 2 photos, at the bottom). Damnit.
  1. Is this fitting inside the wall split?
  2. If so, that means I 100% need to replace the drop ear fitting, right?
  3. And if that's the case, will the plumber need me to open a larger hole in the drywall than the 5"x5" I have already?
