Per Schluter instructions, i'm looking to use this kind of coupling below

to connect my Kerdi linear drain (http://www.hugotiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Kerdi-drain-grate-options.jpg) to my PVC pipe.
I cut my pipe a little too much and now there's about a 1/2 inch of space between the spout on the drain and the pipe.
In other words, the PVC pipe and drain will not butt up against each other inside the rubber coupling. However, both sides will come well past the metal bands.
Is this an issue, or should I cut a new piece of PVC pipe so its the perfect length?
