Hey guys, im putting a new line in on an older well and have had problems with the water rusting fixtures in the old house over time. Im thinking of having a filter put in at the water tank, I have a neighbor that said he had it done. Is this something that is hard to do or could I do it myself. Also do you think that this will drastically effect my water pressure since it will be filtering water flowing from the pressure tank? Id much rather do this before the house is done and we are living in it.

You use the term "water tank" and "pressure tank". Do you have two separate pumps? Do not add new steel pipe, and consider replacing what steel you can with PVC or poly.

Get a water test that measures iron, manganese, pH, arsenic, hardness and more. I like kit 90 from http://www.karlabs.com/watertestkit/

Based on the numbers, you can find a more relevant solution.

It will be on the pressure tank, sorry for the confusion. I have had water test and was told that I would need an iron filter, just not sure how to go about it or what brands/kind would be best.

As Reach4 mentions, folks need to know what the numbers from your test were.

How deep is your well, and what is the depth to the static water level?

There can be complications if you have something along the lines of Iron Reducing Bacteria or Manganese Reducing Bacteria.
