Hey everybody--

I have a floor drain whose cleanout threads are bad, so that the existing 1.5" NPT PVC cleanout plug won't thread back in. Maximum OD of the plug's threads is 1.89", so it must be 1.5" nominal NPT. I'm having an awful time knowing for sure that I'm finding the right rubber expansion plug on amazon or ebay. I think my searches have described it in crystal-clear terms, but I'm still left guessing. I already mistakenly bought an end-of-pipe plug, which is no good, and amazon's product search engine keeps showing me that wrong plug as the first result. What should I order?

Thanks.

Why dont you Just borrow a tap in the correct size from someone and re-thread the floor drain.... ??
I have had to do that before
Finding someone with a 1-1/2" tap and borrowing it would be a good trick. But I do see that I could get one delivered from amazon for around $27. So, not that bad of an approach. And I'm thinking I could make a thread chaser by cutting gaps out of the threads at the end of a 1-1/2" pipe.

But a few years ago, my plumber replaced a 2" plug with what I think he called a "sun plug" (I guess because it's orange and round). I looked at that, and on the square wrench head, it's marked "ETCO P-200". After considerable work, I've found a few places selling it in 1-1/2, and I ordered one for about $15 delivered. The title of the ebay listing is "Test-Tite T-Cone Combination Cleanout Test Plug 1-1/2" 86375 Test-Tite 86375". Amazon has it too. It goes by "IPS 86375", as it's made by IPS. The plastic plug is tapered and screws into a rubber liner/gasket. You can find the product page and instructions online. It's marked "ETCO P-150" and sold as a "test plug" or a "cleanout test plug" under the Test-Tite brand, and it's for air-pressure testing of drain lines under construction or repair. It's supposed to hold 50 feet of water. https://www.amazon.com/IPS-86375-Cleanout-Test-Plug/dp/B008MG2O4Y

I had taps from 1/8-3," as in jobbing, you never know what you need

Of course, employees stole the 1/2" and 3/4 the smaller size I used to retap the radiator air vent of the bleeder valve on HW systems
