I suspect you are mistake about the hard start system increasing the starting current from the mains.What I've read about hard starts is you have more available current to turn the compressor over from a dead stop, allegedly, over time, will burn the compressor windings out. Mine with the 5-2-1 hard start sure fires faster and easier "audibly", at my house.
I suspect that you read increased starting torque, and presumed higher current. As I read it, the hard start kit adds a capacitor into the circuit during starting to increase the phase shift and therefore the torque.
What I know is that 3-wire pump with a start capacitor is easier on a generator during starting (requires less V-As) than classic 2-wire pump.
My suspicions could be wrong. Can you find anybody who says the hard start kit causes an increase in starting amps?
