How reliable are shark bite couplings?

Never used them before, but I need to extend a water supply outlet under a kitchen sink with limited space for soldering a copper coupling.

They are being used more and more for shutoffs under a sink.
If you have copper pipes, I still prefer compression fittings, but at least you have access for future replacement there too if you go for the Sharkbite style.
