I just had my house repiped and my two tank water heaters replaced with a Navien NPE-240A2 Tankless water heater. The new Navien NPE-240A2 came with Navilink. The problem is where the contractor located the tankless water heater is not a convenient location for hooking up the Navilink wifi device. As I learned the hard way the Navien tankless water does not have onboard wifi capability incorporated into it. Instead it has been designed to use a communication cable that is RS485 that is connected to the tankless water heater with an RS485 type plug. The other end of the Navilink cable that comes with the Navilink Wifi unit looks like an ethernet plug but the RS485 wiring makes it a different animal from the RJ45 ethernet plug. The ethernet type end of this cable plugs into a Navilink wifi unit. I was told by the Navien tech support to think of it as an antenna. Now I need a 25 foot length of this cable to allow the use of the Navilink device so I can place it in a good location for wifi network reception and to have a power plug nearby. The Navilink cable that comes with the Navilink Wifi unit is only about 6 ft long. My question is how do I get a 25 foot long rs485 cable that is compatible with the Navilink system? Navien sells additional cables, part number GXXX001659. But they have the rs485 connection on one end and the ethernet connection on the other similar to what came with Navilink system originally. I guess I can buy 3 or 4 of these cables. But how do I connect them? They don't share common connections where I can just plug them together like an RJ45 coupler. I am sure others have had this problem and solved it somehow. I have an idea but its not appetizing. Cutting and stripping the wire ends and soldering them together matching by color and use shrink tubing. Navien can't be that stupid to allow an extension like that. They say you can have a cable as long as 164 feet. The electronic engineer who designed the Navilink system using RS485 cable ought to be fired. What does the forum think? What does the forum recommend? Please advise.

Wouldn't it be easier to add a wifi extender, or poe switch to get wifi closer?
