Some 3-wire control boxes have run capacitors. They all have start capactors, and usually they are non-polarized electrolytics, which have limited life.

When increased torque is needed with situations like low line voltage, a CSCR control box is used that contains both capacitors.

I really appreciate all of the information! As for the wire sizing, luckily it’s installed in conduit so if I need to upsize my wire, I can do so easily. I’ll check with my electrician to verify one way or the other. The system seems to be running fine at the moment, but I know some things can take a while before rearing their ugly heads!
