CORRECTION - Initially I stated F505F - the model is F50F

I have a family member with dust allergies and have a gas furnace with a Honeywell F50F Electronic Air Cleaner. I use a media filter.

1) Is it best to unplug and turn off the Electronic Air Cleaner and just let the air flow through the filter
or plug it in and turn it on with the filter installed?

2) What MERV rating do you suggest replacement filters?

Eletronic filter cleans better than a Merv filter. It will remove smoke if its working properly and clean. Filters only catch whst they see no different from a vacuum sweeper. To get the most out of a filter is to run the blower 24/7 and keep the house closed up. Here's a manual. Serial # date code year / month or the other way
