I just installed a new water heater and a new thermal expansion tank and my water pressure is a good bit higher than it was before. This doesn't seem right to me. But I have never installed a thermal expansion tank before so I really don't know. Any idea what is going on? Any answers would be appreciated!!

The dielectric nipples on the old water heater may have been occluded lowering the flow, or maybe the valve you shut off to do the work was not fully open...

If you have any concerns about your work post a picture...

I very much doubt the expansion tank would have anything to do with the pressure difference. They are too small to provide pressure storage.

Perhaps the old water heater was gunked up with hard water deposit reducing the flow.

Perhaps the temperature on the new tank is higher so there is more cold added to the mix. I deliberately set the temp on the water heater so that the shower temp is just right with both hot and cold full open. That provides the most flow which translates to more pressure from the shower head.

Expansion tanks do NOT change the pressure, they just respond to the pressure you have, so either something else has occurred, or your perception is faulty.

Pressure or volume?

I always notice that there is more usable hot water from the faucets when an expansion tank is installed.
They buffer the input when a faucet is opened elsewhere in the system. I wouldn't personally have a home without an expansion tank.

Ballvalve lives in a cave.

His water comes through a spring that weeps out from a crack in the ground.

Is that why they canceled your TV show ?

Did not mean to poke fun.

Your brother is cool.

No the director said that Ballvalve couldn't take direction.
And then he shaved thinking it would make it easier to pick up the babes.
It was all over after that the shooting delays made them mad.

I can understand that... He does seem a bit headstrong...

Thanx for your input I think it is okay it has been almost 6 days and everything seems to be doing fine. The pressure starts out harder and then dies down to close to where was before I installed the tank. You have a great forum here. Thanks again!!

The expansion tank has a small amount of "storage" that quickly draws down. That in and of itself, indicates that there is a flow restriction somewhere upstream.
