I'm reaching out to you to ask for an advice how to adjust my water softener.

I got this water softener
WS 1.jpg

WS 2.jpg

6 months ago from my neighbor .The unit is almost brand new . Also I have Iron filter that works great ( Air injected Fleck 5600 ). They both were installed same day.I used a tester Hach 5-B and its at 55 and Iron 3-4 ppm . It is Fleck 5600SXT 64K 2 cub/ft of grain. Would like nice soft water, but doesn't need to be super slick. Just want our dishes to stop getting wrecked and come out clear/clean after the dish washer. Forgot to mention , my salt consumption is way bigger then I was expecting.
We are a family of 4 and use about an average of 220 gallons per day .

Initial settings are as follows:

DF - GAL
VT - dF1b
CT - Fd
NT - 1
C - 48
H - 63
RS - RC
RC - 240 gal
DO - 14
RT - 2 am
BW - 10 min
BD - 60 min
RR - 10 min
BF - 8 min
FM - p0.7

Please let me know your thoughts on this or tweaks you may recommend.

Show the back where the pipes and paddlewheel are.

When using the Hach 5-B for water that 30 to 60 grains, test one part well water and 1 part distilled. Then take the number of drops to turn blue, and multiply by 2.

Your first picture show 1.0 on a label. That is in an area where somebody might right the BLFC gpm. Most 5600SXTs have a 0.5 gpm BLFC, but you may have the 1.0 gpm. Let's presume you do.

Assuming BLFC 1.0 and 55 hardness, here it is.
System info (not programmed)
salt lb/cuft = 6 ; A choice ( efficiency vs capacity)
BLFC = 1 ; Brine Refill rate GPM
cubic ft resin = 2 ; ft3 resin = (nominal grains)/32,000
Compensated hardness = 60 ; including any compensation
Estimated gal/day = 220 ; 60 gal per person typical calc
Estimated days/regen = 2.60 ; Computed days including reserve

Fleck 5600SXT Settings:
DF = Gal ; Units
VT = dF1b ; Downflw/, Single Backwash, black cam
CT = Fd ; Meter Delayed regen trigger
NT = 1 ; Number of tanks
C = 42 ; capacity in 1000 grains
H = 70 ; Hardness-- compensated from 55 due to high hardness
RS = rc ; rc says use gallons vs percent
RC = 220 ; Reserve capacity gallons
DO = 30 ; Day Override (28 if no iron)
RT = 2:00 ; Regen time (default 2 AM)
BW = 5 ; Backwash (minutes)
Bd = 60 ; Brine draw minutes
RR = 5 ; Rapid Rinse minutes
BF = 4 ; Brine fill minutes
FM = ___P_0.7 ; https://terrylove.com/forums/index.php?attachments/img_fleck5600sxt_flow-png.31592/

You have some really hard water.

Revised based on number from https://terrylove.com/forums/index.php?threads/help-for-programming-fleck-5810.82673/#post-595983
BLFC = 1
cubic ft resin = 2

Alternative C and BF pairs:
lb/cuft ; C= ; BF= ; grains/pound of salt

3.000 ; 27.7 ; 2 ; 6147
4.500 ; 36.0 ; 3 ; 5332
6.000 ; 42.0 ; 4 ; 4670 #used above
7.500 ; 46.6 ; 5 ; 4147 #this one would give softer water
9.000 ; 50.3 ; 6 ; 3726 #this one would be softer still
10.500 ; 53.3 ; 7 ; 3383
12.000 ; 55.7 ; 8 ; 3097
13.500 ; 57.8 ; 9 ; 2856

Reach4, Thank you for an explanation and your time.
Going back to other chat - I will order #00 injector and replace it asap, after that do you think I should change anything on the settings.

Yes, the BD.

And if you change the BLFC to 0.5, then the BF.

You would double BF. The advantage of 0.5, instead of 1.0, would be able to have more granularity.
Do you understand the table I put at the bottom of post #3?

For now, I would stay with the BLFC that you have, since the an in-between brine setting may not be of interest.

Hello,
I don't know if my problem has anything to do with programming, so please bear with me.
I haven't checked on my water softener for a few months and today since I had to replace the filter on the main I thought I might do so.
So I opened the salt/brine container and I was surprised to find that water was covering the salt level up to at least 12cm/4 inches. Also where the floater is there was water down there, half height, same height as in the tank obviously.
I don't know what happened but I made some inquiries:
- The brine wash works fine
- The brine draw works too
- The RR works
- The brine fill was stuck. Weird since the brine tank was actually way full.

I dismantled the floater and water was coming in while in refill, so the 5600 is fine.
I opened the top valve of the floater and wooosh I got myself splattered.
Closing it back seemed to have solved the problem (temporarily?) and the water flowed to the tank.
I also noticed that i actually don't know where (at what height) to set the floater. I don't even know if it works as a security for floods.
I programmed and installed my 5600 myself and used an old Culligan Medalist salt container with it.
