Hell of a way to start the New Year

I received a call about a 4-year-old girl being severely scalded yesterday.

A homeowner hired a handyman to install a new free-standing stove for $25.00

The mother was making a very large pot of pasta and opened the oven door, and turned her back for a split second. (that's all it takes)

The little girl stepped on the over door, and the stove tilted, pouring the boiling water on her head, face, and chest, causing very severe burns that put the child in intensive care.

How could this have been prevented?

Simply.. HIRE A master plumber or journeyman working for an LMP, as they know how to install a bracket to prevent tipping.

The homeowner wants to sue the non-licensed, non insured handyman.

Of course, it is the homeowner's fault, but there is a case where the instructions were not clear or were missing.

The husband is beside himself and is looking to blame someone else.

Feel so sorry for the family especially the girl. We in the trade know better or should. But for the average consumer they hire someone mosty by cost or ignorance. Even if they can go after the handyman im sure he has nothing.

If someone is stupid enough to charge $25.00 (Which I pay my helpers per hr) then the idiot in NYC is a damn fool, as NYC has a very high cost of living, and what did he expect for $25.00

Hopefully, when the young girl gets older, she can actually sue her father.

There was a case where a child was hurt in a car accident, and her parents did not put a seat belt on her. She was able to sue decades later for pain, suffering, and the scar on her face that the accident caused.
