Curious what are the reviews of heat pump water heater in the NE unconditioned basement? I’m in need of replacement for my 12 year old electric water heater and was wondering if the savings on electric will be worth the expense of a heat pump water heater or should I just stay with a newer electric water heater with the hopes its somewhat more efficient than the old one.
Heater is in an a somewhat unconditioned basement in NJ

Heat pumps pull heat from the basement space under 45-50° they don't heat much. The air coming from a heat pump is colder than entering air. Your taking the heat out of the air.

They are not worth the trouble and possible aggravation...
if the tank leaks a month out of warranty, then you have shelled out all that money
and it cannot be salvaged ....and you are screwed

I would just get another electric heater and put a water heater blanket on it
and add an extra anode rod to it and see how many years you get out of it...
