Hanger location

is there a formula to figure out where to place a hanger for a branch line coming off of a wye..... there must be a measurment off of the center of the main depending on the distance of my first hanger off the wye

Clevis hangers shall be spaced according to type piping materials (cast iron, steel, copper, plastic ) and by the size of the piping

It is all available by looking at your local code book

The better codes even state what size rod (threaded) to be used

By the way hub cast iron was spaced behind each hub and every 5 feet

There is always a maximum spacing allowed between hangars, which as mentioned, varies depending on what kind of pipe you are installing. It is never wrong to install extra support.
