Need get cap off this early 1980s vintage Grohe shower faucet. No notch provided to pop off the plastic and neither plastic nor metal plus plastic screws out under reasonable force. Any information/experience appreciated. Drips and would rather attempt to fix than replace.

You could contact Grohe tech support by phone. If you emailed the tech your photos, I bet you would get the answer.

Thanks for responses. Turns out that there are ridges on the plastic part of the cap that fit into slots on the metal part of the cap. About 1/4 turn CCW to remove, but pretty well set in place after 30 years.

While the 1/4 turn CCW worked for me, I am stumped on how to remove the plastic insert. I two identical Grohe 1-lever wall faucets and want to harvest parts from one to fix the other. This plastic insert provides leverage for the handle. There is a chrome "trim" piece that wraps around the plastic insert. Do I need to turn off the water and unscrew the valve's nut? Or is there a trick to getting all the parts out?
