Greetings everyone:

I have the Grohe diverter tub spout 13600 000 classic as pictured below:

Before, if I press the diverter down which is shower mode whether or not the water is running, it will stay down until I pull it up.

However, about a week or so ago, the diverter will only stay down while the water is running, otherwise it will immediately pop back up to spout mode. Even if there is water running, it will pop back up to spout mode as soon as I turn the water off.

As this faucet came with the house when it was purchased in 2009, what is supposed to be the correct way it's supposed to work? Is it supposed to stay locked in the shower mode even without water running or is it supposed to pop back up when there is no water running?

How does one actually remove the diverter?

Thanks!

That is a spring loaded Diverter spout. You press down to divert to shower. when the water is turned off the spout diverter should pop back up under its spring tension.
They make a repair kit for that spout #45166000. $88.00
