I am having the hardest time to get this pop up linkage to work. It is new construction and bathroom is complete and i am trying to line this up so the lever will trigger this. It looks like this.

I must be missing something. I have tried all sorts of lengths to the adjustments. I think the design is to have the spring bottom out in the vent pipe and press down the linkage in the up position. Any guidance would be very helpful.
