Contractor snaked the pipe under kitchen sink down to basement and connection to sewer pipe. No real change in draining speed. Had disposer removed and a normal pipe added in its place under sink. Still drains slow, maybe slower. The thought now is that the old cast iron piping, pretty narrow to begin with, is clogged with mineral buildup from decades of hard water. Next is a plumber to evaluate and advise replacing cast iron pipe from kitchen to basement/sewer. I hope this is not opening up pandora's box and a multitude of new problems. Bathrooms are fine with water in and out.

Interesting.
No AAV for the p-trap
Rubber Fernco for the connection.

Most plumbers would use a coupling with a metal sleeve.
Was that a twenty year old disposer that was pulled out? They are normally only good for eight years.

that photo is better, because it shows that you have an "S" trap, and that means there are MANY possible causes for you problem and MOST of them are NOT at the sink. Your plumber should have been able to diagnose it when he put the new drain in and told you WHY it was happening, even it it could not be fixed. This problem CANNOT be fixed with an AAV.

The AAV doesn't make it drain faster, it's to prevent the trap from siphoning.
Right now it's an S trap, which tends to siphon the trap dry, assuming the line is clear and the water will actually drain.

I can see at least 3 problems in the photo. One, you have an illegal S trap.
Two, the neoprene Fernco is not allowed anywhere above ground. Connection should be done with fittings, but a banded coupler would be legal. Third, the galvanized drain is probably clogged with rust. Snaking would not remove rust, the pipe is likely toast.
