The cable to the disposer is also required to be in a sheath of some sort; liquatite, etc. This is in case your toddler decides to crawl under the sink and chew electric wires, I suppose.

I am just the opposite. Here, the customers buy disposers which do NOT have the cord so I either have to transfer the wire from the old one or install a new one. The disposers I buy from my wholesaler all have the cords attached already. direct connection wires usually just come out of the wall without a box.
