I recent purchased a property with a well in a field. There isn't any power or house nearby. There was an old house somewhere near the field. I put a measuring tape in the tall pipe and it stops at the well cap. The tall pipe is 41 in to the cap, 2 1/2 in in diameter and it looks as if a torch was used to cut the top off. I loosened the cap bolts but I still haven't got the cap off. I'm trying to determine the original setup.
