I want to install a Moen Flo Leak Detector in the 1.25" line that supplies my property from the community water company. Moen offers their Flo in 1" and 1.25" versions with the latter costing almost double. How much of a reduction in flow would I expect to see with the smaller unit?

would have to look at flow charts for the product. would need to look at what your supply needs are and peak demand usage for your dwelling.

If supplying a house, I expect the 1-inch unit would be sufficient.

It is not a waste to have 1.25 pipe for the long haul, and then using something smaller at the end. Pressure drops add, rather than being determined by just the smallest diameter.
