I purchased a MicroTurb sand filter several years back, and it came with a Fleck 5810 valve. We recently had a power outage, and when the power came back on, the valve went into a permanent backwash state until it emptied our well. I couldn't get it to stop, so I switched to bypass and unplugged the unit while I ordered new parts for what I assumed was a broken piston, since that's the common problem.

Replaced the piston yesterday, and plugged it back in. Now it appears the unit has lost its master programming, and I'm wondering if that was in fact the original problem from the power outage. Either way, I need to reprogram it. I know how to get to the settings, but I have no idea how to set it up since everything I can find is related to setup with a water softener, not a sand-media turbidity filter.

Anyone got any ideas? I'm going to call the company I ordered it from, but not sure if they're going to be of help.

These might get you started. Once you select FLtr, I expect the things you need to choose are determined. I expect reasonable defaults will be pre-programmed. Write down what you encounter.

Here are some settings I am thinking of until you get better info:

DF Gal
VT 5810
RF FLtr ;filter tpe
CT tc ;regen based on the time clock .
B1 10? ; backwash minutes
RR 6? ;minutes of rapid rinse to pack the media back down
DO 7? ;days between regenerations
RT 2:00

There is another mode RF=Othr described in the manual.I have thought that would be interesting to let the unit backwash for a while. Then pause for a while while the pressure tank refills, and then backwash again starting with a full pressure tank. I have not heard of somebody doing this, but some filters use a lot of GPM, and the pump may not be able to keep up. But with a cycle or two of resting between backwashes, you might be able to get better backwash rates. Consider this as a potential item of discussion.

Hey, thanks so much for this information! It was enough to get it back into a state where I could edit it properly. The distributor I used was able to feed me the last few settings you had question marks on. In case this will help anyone else in years to come (or myself if I forget), for the 9" microturb system I am using (model 0948) the last few settings were:
Backwash BW: 10
Rapid Rinse RR: 3
Day Override DO: 5
