Fleck 5810 Making constant noise

Yesterday morning I walked into my garage and my soft water system was sounding like a spout that was open with water filling fairly loud. I figured it was just the regen cycle taking longer. Checked again last night and it was still going. I tried to unplug the unit but it still made the noise. If I turn off the blue valve on the right from facing the front of the fleck 5810 then the noise would stop. The second I opened the valve it would do that noise again. I plugged it back in and left it alone hoping maybe it would fix itself. Today same issue. Any thoughts on how to fix this? here is a video of the noise and valve.
 
Fleck 5810 has been discontinued as there was a weakness with the design which resulted in the piston to break after some time.

It's most likely, your piston has also become broken, and so your valve will require rebuilding with a new piston, seal and brine valve.

Until it is fixed, bypass the softener by turning the two blue handles to point toward each other. Electrical power is only utilized to move the piston from one position to the other during regeneration, so unplugging the unit will not stop the water from flowing to drain, but bypassing the unit will stop the flow.

Suggest obtaining a few spare pistons to keep in the ready as each piston is likely to also become broken after some time.

The seals and new piston should be lubed with Dow No 7 release compound or Chemplex 862 Silicone Compound Lubricant

Is the fix easy for someone to watch a YouTube video for a DIY’er?

Also if I turn the 2 blue valves that will mean no more soft water, right?

Sorry last question is that kit something I can find on Amazon?

Any chance you have an online link where I can buy these parts? Also easy enough for a diy non pro fix?
 
With the unit stuck flowing water to drain, then it is already not supplying soft water to your home's fixtures.



Have you done this before? The gray wire he shows just pulling off. In the comments someone said there is a way to release it because it’s barbed. I tried to unplug it without a lot of force and it doesn’t come out that easily. Looking under the unit I am not seeing anyway to release it though. Just don’t want to break it.

I had changed my seals, which must have involved that. I probably pulled that sensor out with a medium long-nose pliers, but it was not memorable. However looking again, I wondered if there is a little tab like an RJ-11 phone connector. I think not.

There is no tab or release. It's a snug fit.
 
Sorry finally had time to circle back to this. What lubricant should I be using? The ones I found in the videos on youtube do not seem to be easily available anywhere.

Note that you can use those on static (not moving during operation) surfaces also, and on static surfaces you could also use the more viscous Molykote 111.

I am sure it would be fine for static seals, but I would not use it on the piston/seals.

I am sure it would be fine for static seals, but I would not use it on the piston/seals.

Probably. I get confused with Dow Dupont Molykote Dowsil and now Falcon. I know the first three, but I expect that is the same thing.
 
This is probably a dumb question but I watched this video and replaced the piston but he does not mention how to bring it back into service. What is the steps there?


do I just plug it in and open the valves and its good? One of the steps had be hold a button for 5-10seconds at the start.
