Fleck 5600sxt flowing wrong way during brine drain

I am about to pull my hair out with this issue, having tried all of the solutions that I have found online. During the brine drain phase of the regen, water come out of the brine line into the brine tank instead of suctioning water out of the brine tank. I have tried many various solutions for the drain line (25’ horizontal run to a standpipe, shortened run down to about 8 feet to a sump pit that is right next to the softener, 18” line into a bucket for testing, etc.). Cleaned injectors and checked seals, etc. I even went as far as to replace the injector assembly completely.

I’m a DIY plumbing novice, so I don’t know what the proper troubleshooting steps would be. It seems that if I put the unit into bypass while the brine drain is running and then take it out of bypass and back into service, the rest of that brine drain cycle works normally but the next regen it’s back to not working.

Any suggestions or more info I can provide that would help diagnose this issue?

How long have you had this and how long has this symptom been happening?
In the programming, what is VT set to? The most common is dF1b. That setting must match what kind of piston you have.

Now if this worked for years and then started misbehaving, I would suspect a piston or seal problem. I am not a pro.

I bought/self-installed the softener about 2 years ago. It worked fine for 18 months or so. I’ve been noticing that it wasn’t using salt for about the past 6 months and finally figured out why.
