Hi All: First time poster. I've looked at several threads and am hopefully close. I'm attempting to go for a good efficiency of both water and salt, but not compromise hardness too much. We don't need the water "super slick" (as we've not had a softener before) - but clearly don't want to "fowl" the resin or have short term gain for long term pain. Appreciate a quick review. Thank you!

Water: City water supply - 30 gpg hardness, 0.1 ppm iron, 7 ppb manganese

Softener: Fleck 5600SXT Valve (Pentair Brand), Injector 2 (label), Drain Flow 3.5gpm (label), 3/4" paddle meter, 2.0 cu ft resin, 64,000 grain capacity (assume BLFC is 0.5gpm but no label)

Household: 2 adults, 1 teen, 2 children. 160 gal use / day (12 mo avg per water bill).

The less salt per cubic ft, the more salt efficient, but more hardness breakthrough.
Revised based on numbers from

Your current choice of BF=9 is good to match your stated objectives. You coud back that off to 6 for a little more salt savings.

Thanks for your quick reply Reach 4!

Just to make sure I'm reading this correctly - your good with all my settings above, but you think it would / could make sense to go down to a C of 36 and CF of 6 (so 4.5 lb salt) or are you suggesting 6 lbs of salt which would be a C of 42 and BF of 8?

Also thinking about water usage as I think they told me this would be about 70 gallons down the drain each regen cycle ..

The second: 6 lbs of salt per cubic ft of resin, with BF=8 is as lean as I would go to start for most people.

5*3.5 gallons for backwash.
5*3.5 gallons for fast rinse
4 gallons for brine fill.
55* (~0.65 depending on injector) for BD+slow rinse) (see graph in manual for slow rinse)
Add them up.
