My Fleck 5600 economizer keeps getting stuck. Sometimes it's like some gear miss mesh because it's stuck solid until I loosen the motor enough to unmesh the motor gear, than it frees up. Now the plunger that goes in the big piston valve has got tight. I got my hands a used unit spare and have exchanged some parts including the seals and the motor. I've had the gears apart from both units. looking at the back, there must be some alignment between the big center gear and the gear to the left that's behind the program wheel. It's still doesn''t seem like it's working right. I think I got something assembled wrong. I got new seals ordered, but I don't think that's the currant issue.

The symptoms you describe are common when the control valve requires rebuilding with new seals, spacers, brine valve, O-rings and possibly a new piston.

If the piston's Teflon coating is scratched, flaking, or otherwise damaged, the piston will require replacement. Ensure the new piston is specifically for the 5600 Econominder and is equipped with the same color plastic cap as the existing one, as there are multiple piston's available for alternate applications.

The rebuild process is straighforward and does not require specialized tools. In addition to the rebuilding parts, food grade grade type Silicone lubricant will be required, such as Dow release compound 7 or Chemplex 862.
