I'm trying to sort out all new parts to redo our existing septic ejector system and I'm stuck on the filter. The feed to the pump is a 1-1/4" poly pipe from the grey water side of the holding tank. Currently it has a plastic filter on it that has a small air leak. The previous one (same model) broke as the plastic gets brittle over time.

I have purchased another one for $100, but I don't know if its even a great idea. Assuming the tank doesn't overflow and mix with the other side, there shouldn't really be anything "solid" on that end to start with. I know it's protecting the pump, but surface effluent pumps are made to handle solids up to 1/4" diameter. The output is another 1-1/4" poly line that goes and dumps in the far field.
Thoughts on running a filter or not? Other filter options that I could possibly rig up to work in this situation? Thanks!
