I am trying to replace the fill valve of my toilet but am struggling with a stuck lock nut. Can I try to use a folding hand saw on it? I don’t have much space to work in and nothing else I have tried is budging it. Any tips appreciated.

You can saw the nut off, or I sometimes have used a large socket wrench like what you pick up for faucet stems.

If you need to cut it off and you have a Dremel, that's the move. Just cut the nut it in two places and pull it off the stem. You're replacing the fill valve anyway, so don't worry about damaging the stem. However, you should empty the tank first and spunge up any water in the bottom of it, because once you cut the nut off, the fill valve will move, the seal inside the tank will be released, and water may come out of the hole for the fill valve. If you're using a piece of electrical equipment like the Dremel and water comes pouring out, it could be bad.
