Expansion tank, up side down

Why do some folks install their expansion tanks up side down? Surely if they were designed to be hung that way the labels would be printed to be read in that position.

They may read the manufacturer's directions.

A failed one that is hanging versus rising from the pipe might be easier to contain some of the stored water when the thing fails rather than dumping it all on you. Depends on how you can drain the system prior to installing it, but it could hold a few gallons of water once it fails.
