A nice plumbing related comic strip by Rick Kirkman & Jerry Scott, Baby Blues

Funny for a plumber though, as in 99% of the cases, there is no need for tape.
The supply lines to the faucet if flexible will have rubber seals on both ends. If it's solid risers, then they are compression at the shutoff, no tape there.
The p-trap uses slip joint washers, no tape there.
But I can see where the hardware man liked him. He got to sell him more tape.

Do you expect a couple of cartoonists to know that?

Cartoonists are like action movie makers. IT does not matter if something will not work in real life as long as it looks impressive in their masterpiece, (like all the sprinklers in a building going off when they hold a match to one of them).

Or water spraying out of the sink drain.

I think that they would do it even if they knew it was wrong, just for the visuals. I often ask my wife if the writers are really that dumb with some of the things they do.
