I was getting ready to hook up a customers Elkay undermount today with a nice 3/4 HP Insinkerator using the supplied black matt flange, to match the black matt kitchen faucet they had too. Sink looks like this in the catalog.

But what is this I'm looking at? Doesn't that seem really, really deep for a flange?

The flange doesn't drop into the provided hole.

And it barely protrudes through the bottom.

The standard flange for the disposer is 4-1/2" across.

But the sink is made for a drain that is 4-1/8" across.

So this is going to get interesting when I tell the general and the homeowner that we have a little math issue.
This is what came with the sink. Any ideas?

I think they call it "the perfect drain system."

The sink has a retaining groove for the disposer built into it.

At first the drain assembly didn't come all the way apart. It took some fiddling with it. There "are" more parts to it than what my first take at it displayed. Here are the parts laid out

Okay, there is the cup with the groove, which had been hidden in the bigger cup.

Yep, there is a groove here. Groovy. :)

I'm here to finish a job that a different company started. The home was built in 1975 when the deepest sink was 8"
Today that makes for an interesting connection for a disposal. I reversed the trap on this to make it fit. I wish somebody would come out with an improved design for all the deep sinks on old roughs. They could cut 1" of height off the end and it would be a huge help to us plumbers in the field doing service work on someone else's new remodeled kitchen. The cabinets come in, and hey! Can you hook this mess up?

And yes, I mentioned that it was a used disposal, or at least a couple of years old.

I don't like that . sink is deep already and then the drain drops another 1 1/2 " . too bad they didn't lower the trap arm it appears higher than disposal 90 . but its on them for having it plumbed by others and not opening the wall
