This started with a dripping shower. So I changed out the cartridges. I was fairly confident I grabbed the right ones but now I'm unsure. What keeps happening is the rubber washers on the cartridge keep getting worn down to nothing and they leak again. I have changed these washers a few times now. Here are some pics of what I'm talking about...

Is there a hex or square hole in there? It looks like a square. That would be to let you use a seat wrench to change the seat.

Your picture shows a damaged valve seat. That will tear up your washers fairly quickly as you've discovered. You need to replace the seat. There is a tool designed to remove them. It has a tapered end, and, on some, there's not enough depth to let it seat fully, so you can't remove the thing without cutting some off of the end of the tool so it can fully engage the seat. But, once you've replaced that and put a new washer on the stem, it should operate as new. This one is a bit more than you may need, and there are simpler ones https://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-T-Handle-Faucet-Seat-Wrench-17PL0220/304217759
