Recently shower head started dripping, figured it was time to replace the cartridge. I have a single faucet shower. Turn to the right from off and it moves through cold all the way to hot. Turn all the way to the right to shut off. Moen products and looked like was original to the house when built. Picked up a Moen 1222 replacement cartridge and got to work. Needed a puller to get the cartridge out, O-ring on the read end of the cartridge was broken, the rubber seals one side were gone. Cleaned out the inside of the valve, greased new cartridge. Got it inserted with the 'HC' facing up. Turned water on to test for any leaks. No leaks on the valve, and finished putting trim work back on.

However, knob went on in a different position. It's now pointing straight up for the off position. Knob now turns to the right for cold water, turns to the left and I get warm water.

Not sure where I went wrong.

Assuming the valve was plumbed with hot to the left side of the valve.

If the hot cold plumbing reversed, the H/C should be on the bottom with the notch face up opposite the H/C right?

The one I recently replaced the H/C was facing down. I first put in in correctly but the hot water came out before the cold so I pulled it and re-installed it like it was.
